Description
REDUCED!Nice vintage souvenir milk glass hatchet. "Souvenir of Bowling Green, O (Ohio) on handle. Hatchet head has 2 blue flowers with green leaves above and below with a red line going through them. The flowers and souvenir writing look to be hand painted onto the hatchet. Some of the paint/ink is worn on the words Bowling Green and in a couple little spots on the red line. Still has original pink ribbon which shows its age. Back side bottom of handle has scratch and another about 1" up from that. Neither affects the beauty of this piece.
Provenance: From the current owner: This last belonged to now deceased Lola Mae (Larick) Bibler and was found safely tucked away in an old tie box. With it is a small piece of cardboard that Lola wrote: One side:
"Aunt Myrtle Larick Hatchet from Bowling Green Ohio" and on the other "Grandma gave me it". As the note says Lola was given the hatchet by her grandmother, Amanda Larick, who died in 1938. The original owner and purchaser, Myrtle Larick, Amanda's daughter, died at age 28 in 1908. This would put the age of the hatchet sometime before 1908.
Measures 6" long and 3" wide at hatchet
